If you want to explore the tiny Nebbiolo DOC of Boca in Northern PIemonte, you have to know about Silvia Barbaglia! She mostly runs the winery now alongside her father where she learned about winemaking and the vineyards growing up. Her goal is to bring back the interest and winemaking in this region that used to be considered one of the top in all of Italy. Unfortunately contrarily to many wine regions, winemakers and growers abandoned their vineyards here at the foot of the Alps to work in factories and many are now wild woods. The climate and fauna can be challenging but the soils and terroir is unique, giving you such a unique expression of Nebbiolo. PS. The bottle is shaped in the old way her father used to bottle (much more laborious and expensive today) to allow the sediments sit in the belly of the bottle, proving through history and tradition that this wine is made for aging.
